Senior Minister for Security Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was due to a spike in positive cases over the past 14 days between January 7-20 and the decision was made based on the risk assessment and advice of the Ministry of Health (MOH) after finding that daily Covid-19 cases were still on the rise in those areas.

He also said that most districts in these states were red zones.

Apart from that, the operating hours for restaurants and eateries have been extended till 10pm. This includes restaurants, hawkers, roadside stalls and other forms of services involving food. Ismail Sabri said operating hours for food delivery services were also extended until 10pm.
