The 37-kilometer LRT Shah Alam Line or LRT3’s construction located through the main road in Meru has been the subject of complaint to many local residents and shop owners.

Complaints include abolishing parking spaces, sealing off building entrance and exits as well as improper route planning.

The city council visited the construction route and listened to various opinions, ensuring that all changes will be done according to TIA (Traffic Impact Analysis) and RSA (Road Safety Audits) standards to avoid traffic congestion and safety concerns.

Among the group was city council member Mr. Low Kwee Sia, who pointed out the four main complaints from local residents.

“As the road at the construction site near Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) has been changed into a two-way street, the parking lots for the row of shops there has been taken up by the traffic. The customers are unable to find proper parking space and could only resort to parking illegally by the side of the road.

"In response to this matter, the city council will redraw the three parking lots in the side lane. We also found that going from TK Electronic Parts Store to CIMB Bank Building is feasible and can greatly alleviate the parking problem. "

The pavement space is relatively spacious, so the city council will evaluate on the space requirements and see if it’s possible to add about 30 additional parking spaces there.

He said that the project also led to the blocking of Longhua Temple’s entrance and exit. Hence, he has asked the contractor to review and ensure new, open intersections, otherwise the planning would be both unfair and improper.

In addition, he also said that because the LRT track construction used up the land beside Meru’s market which included its main road as well, the said road section is expected to be completed in June this year.

“We therefore discussed the transportation master plan for the entire market area, including planning traffic routes and parking spaces, and asked the respective contractors to pay attention to road quality and reduce traffic congestion to avoid subsequent problems.
