43 Indonesians tried to enter Malaysia illegally on a fishing boat through Sungai Janggut, Kapar. All of them were successfully captured and detained on 28 March 2022 midnight after their boat was detected by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) control centre’s marine radar.

Selangor State Maritime Director Captain Mohammad Rosli bin Kassim had said that when the patrol boat found the illegal fishing boat, it was full with illegal immigrants. When ordered to stop, the boat driver accelerated instead in an attempt to escape, hence the patrol boat proceeded to pursue it, successfully catching up and capturing the illegal fishing boat.

In his statement, he also stated that 43 of the illegal immigrants were aged from 5-47, including 30 men, 12 women and a child. All of them, including their boat have been detained at Pulau Indah, Port Klang.

The director stated that the authorities will investigate the case under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
